For the Love of Football

The Plan of action to unite the two sides of town is to have a football tournament. There will be 8 teams with 10 players on each team. But every team will be half African american and half white. This will make sure that it's not just simply African Americans vs Whites. Everyone who participates in the tournament will get a five dollars. There will be police at the game to ensure there are no altercations. Everyone in the county will be invited to the event. The admission fee for a game will be 20 cents per person. People in the state of Alabama are open to making donations to help fund this event.  All of the money will go to the African American and White schools in Maycomb County. 
The way in which the event will work is very basic. Mr. Taylor and Atticus Finch will be the refs for all of the football games. They are both honorable men who are unbiased. Police Officers will act as security guards to make sure there is no violence. We will cut down trees in the Deer's Pasture to create room to build a field. We will also need to build bleachers, which well help create jobs for those who are unemployed in Maycomb county. If successful, this could become a yearly event in Maycomb.

Taking A Stand

To take a stand means to be unmovable on a subject or to protect someone or something.  I feel it means to commit time and resources to something you firmly believe in.  An example of people taking a stand is about the topic of abortion. Jews and Christians believe abortion its not moral to practice abortion as it is similar to committing genocide. I do not believe Tom Robinson took a stand for himself when he tried to escape  from prison. He was not making a point with his actions. He was trying to kill himself. By trying to climb the jail's fence to freedom he was not stating his innocence. I believe Tom already knew he was done for and that he had no chance of winning the trial, so he decides to get it over with and he basically in a way commits suicide. Even if Tom decided to wait for the appeal, he would he would die still. He wanted to save his family the trouble of watching him  slowly die. So he just decided to get it over with.

As the book goes on, I really started to realize the consequences of running away from your plantation. When she escapes from the plantation and starts to live in a attic at her grandma's friend's house, Dr. Flint throws her kids in jail, hoping she would come back for them. But Linda knew these consequences and she didn't go back. For example "was about to risk everything on the throw of a die" ( Jacobs 97). She knew what could happen if she tried to escape and still did. But I would never abandon my kids like that. I wouldn't let others suffer for my mistake. Another thing I and all readers realize is something great ocurrs that makes life better for Jacobs. Not only were her kids in jail, and her kids were seperated from their dad. But things change when shes says "can it be that my children are free? I have not suffered for them in vain . Thank God!" ( Jacobs 111). Her kids were bought by their dad. They were finally free, something actually went well for Jacobs. What Jacobs did is one of the riskiest decisions I have seen in any book, but it worked, thankfully.

In later chapters, I noticed acouple of interesting things that were occuring. One thing that strike me as very interesting was the white men searching for the slaves in the Nat Turner rebellion. They had absolutley no idea what the slaves even looked like or even how to speak proper english! For example " We's got 'em! Dis 'ere yaller gal's got letters" (Jacobs 67). These men obviously are not the brightest. They thought the letter was about escaping when it was really letter to family and friends. But even an uneducated white man was trusted more than a educate black man. Another thing that was interesting was How Dr.Flint would physically assult her and scream at her in front of her kids. At the beginning I though Dr.Flint was just obsessed with Jacobs, but later on I realize he just flat out insane. For example " He caught him up and hurled him across the room" (Jacobs 82). He threw a five year old across the room, how cruel and insane could a person be. At first Linda Brent was Dr. Flints obsession, now shes' his addiction.

It is absolutley crazy how Linda Brent doesn't tell her grandomother about the abuse shes is recieving from Dr. Flint. If that was happening to me, my grandmother would be one of the first people I would tell! It seems as if Linda doesn't want to tell her grandmother because she is scared of the consequences of telling her. Linda says "I would have given the world to have laid my head on my grandmother'ss faithful bosom, and told her all my troubles. But Dr. Flint swore he would kill me"(Jacobs 28). She knows that if she tells her grandmother then she will abused physically and sexually even more than shes was being before. I agree with Linda, though I don't think there would only be one person to worry about, I think her grandma would be extremley angry and may scream or even strike at Dr. Flint. It is amazing how much plantation owners do not tell their slaves. She explains how one slave thought " America was governed by a queen to which the president was subordinate" (Jacobs 45). It is sad and astonishing how uneducated and unaware some slaves were of what was going on in heir country. I think the reason they wouldn't tell slaves what was going on waas they thought they would be less likely to run away if they had no idea where they were going. And what they were getting themselves into. The way Jacobs writes is unique and gives the reader an interesting view on how bad slavery was.

The first couple chapters of Incidents in the of a slave girl are very fascinating and interesting. Its so astonishing and sad how much power Dr. Flint has over her. For example, Jacobs can't have a husband that  Dr. Flint doesn't approve of. Dr. Flint says "If you must have a husband, you make take up with one of my slaves" (Jacobs 30). Jacobs has virtually no power whats so ever and how perverted Dr. Flint is.  Dr. Flint won't let her marry the man because he wants her for himself.  Another interesting thing is, Jacobs is very calm when she is talking about her horrible experiences. For example Jacobs couldn't even give her two kids her father's name. She says, "Always it gave me a pang that my children had no lawful claim to a name" (Jacobs 80).  Its sad and dissapointing how she wants her kids to have their father's last name but won't get it. This is a little thing that we all take for granted, we have no idea what it would be like if we didn't have the benefit of having our father's last name. I think Jacobs should show her emotions more in her writing, and I wish D. Flint did have as much power. As Kanye west song "Power" says "No man should have all that Power".

Reality vs Ideal

School in America today is far from perfect. America used to be the ideal place for education, many people still think it is but it's still far from perfect. For example some things school could improve on is making more interesting and creative ways to learn. In high school today, the main way teenagers learn is writing notes down or reading from a textbook. The school lunches are also horrible. Most of the food is greasy and unappetizing. Instead of sugar filled slurpees we should have smoothies made from pure fruit. My ideal school would be a school where I would have all of my classes in one day. Students no matter what daze off and do not focus at some point in class, this will eliminate this problem. The biggest thing Montgomery County is a class where you can do all of your homework. This class would be everyday the student would have this teacher from sixth grade to senior year. Montgomery County is one of the best counties in Maryland, but these changes could make it the best on the east coast.
